The Members' Club at St. James Plantation
4006 St. James Drive
Southport, NC 28461
Come discover the splendor of this well-designed course. The Members' Club at St. James Plantation opened in 1996 with a highly playable eighteen hole golf course and added a nine hole expansion in 2001. The first eighteen holes of this course, designed for golfers of all skill levels, were designed by well known golf architect Hale Irwin as one of his Signature courses. The additional nine holes were designed by Carolinian Tim Cate and only add to the enjoyment of The Members' Club. Senior PGA tour member Hale Irwin created a course that truly challenges players with the natural lay of the land.
Depending on where a player begins on the tee box, the course provides a rating of 116 to 121 and a slope rating of 67 to 68.2. The salty coastal winds can prove one of the hardest challenges on the long stretches of fairway. A note from the locals about the course: the fifteenth hole, a par five, can be a tight squeeze expanding along the 200 yard bottleneck in front of the water - especially in high winds. "Golf Digest" rated this course as a 4 1/2 star course on the 2006 list of "Best Places to Play." Any golfer can enjoy themselves on this stunning course.
Please respect the rules of play on the course. All "improved" roads are out of bounds to golf carts. When a player is under a penalty of one stroke, please play the ball as close as possible to where you last played the original ball and keep in mind the white poles with green caps. These highlight the areas where a player can make a free drop. Obviously, if one is not around, especially if you are playing in an area of mulched pine straw, the ball will still be considered as "in play."
The Members' Club at St. James Plantation also provides golfers with amazing features for before or after their golf games. Relax and find your favorite luxury amidst the 8,000 square-foot clubhouse. Retreat to the bar and swap some of your best "war-stories" and whoppers with other golfers. If you're looking for a delicious meal after a hard day's work you'll have a few options. Make the choice between the Members' Bar and Grill, the Players' Grill or grab either breakfast, lunch or dinner in a private room. It's the perfect locale for a multitude of social events and be sure to ask about the catering services offered at the club.
Be sure to swing by the Pro Shop for all of your golf wants and needs, as the shop offers the top-of-the-line merchandise for every occasion. Other great amenities include walking and biking trails, a waterfront park as well as a full service marina. After a hot day of golfing, enjoy a dip in the large indoor/outdoor swimming pool to relax and wind down the muscles. Keep your swing strong by working out in the fitness center that offers state-of-the-art equipment or play a game of tennis along one of the eight clay-surface tennis courts.
