The Clubs at St. James Plantation
4006 St. James Drive
Southport, NC 28461
The luxurious area of St. James Plantation in Southport, North Carolina boasts of more than 80 holes of golf spread out on four golf courses. Each course features a beautifully appointed clubhouse offering services and amenities akin to those found in the most prestigious private golf clubs around the country, including a state-of-the art fitness center, indoor and outdoor water facilities, walking and biking trails, and eight clay surfaced tennis courts. Residents enjoy the North Carolina coastal setting with a private beach club and an Intracoastal Waterway marina.
It's always important to know and respect the rules of play on different golf courses. We've included some important rules to be aware of when playing on the courses at St. James Plantation. These rules became effective October 1st, 2006. All improved roads are considered out of bounds. Each, when under a penalty of one stroke, must play a ball as close as possible to the spot from which the original ball was last played. "Carole's rule" has been replaced by a white pole with a green cap. All landscaped areas that are entitled to a free drop are now discernable by a white pole with a green cap. When playing on one of these courses, you may drop one club length outside of the landscaped area, but can drop no closer than this to the hole. If players are unable to find one of these white poles with a green cap around an area of mulched pine straw, then the ball is still considered in play.
It's also important to understand the policy concerning minors on the different St. James courses. St. James Plantation considers family very important and is ultimately concerned with the safety of young children with regards to the golf courses. Minors can be at risk of danger when on the golf courses or the practice areas as they might not be aware of many safety factors involved. Such potential risks included standing too close to a player's swing path, not knowing when or where to hold onto the grab rail of a golf cart, etc. Because of these safety concerns, the courses St. James Plantation enforce the following rule; children who are four years old or younger are not permitted in golf carts, on practice ranges or on any of the golf courses throughout St. James Plantation at any time.
For children who are ages 5 to 11 may only ride on a golf cart if they are accompanied by a grandparent, parent or legal guardian who fully accepts the responsibility for the child's behavior and safety. Children can not be held by a driver or a passenger in a golf cart, nor, due to safety reasons, may they sit in the lap of anyone in a golf cart. Children who are 16 years of age or older are able to operate a golf cart as long as they have a valid drivers license. Any child under the age of 16 is not allowed on any of the Plantation's golf courses unless they are specifically registered with the Golf Shop to play golf. Junior rates are always available for minors.
